Freebooters march on in Pat Maher Shield

Freebooters are the first team into the Maher Shield Final after they ran out 4-0 winners over Ormonde Villa last Sunday morning.
The two city neighbours met at Garringreen and while Ormonde gave it their all, Freebooters were much the better side on this occasion with Jim Ryan (2), Ger Hayes and Dion Fitzpatrick getting on the scoresheet for the winners.
’Booters now await the winners of this weekend’s other semi-final clash between Evergreen and Deen Celtic with the final fixed to take place on St Patrick’s Weekend.
On the league front, there was only one game in the Junior St Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division with Thomastown United making the trip to Rathdowney to take on Clover United.
The South Kilkenny outfit have had a decent season to date and now they just sit one point off the top after claiming a 2-1 win at Clover’s expense.
Kelvyn Skehan and Sean Denieffe were Thomastown’s scorers as the three points moved them into third position even if they’ve played more games than a number of their rivals.
Elsewhere Evergreen B and Freshford Town shared the spoils in the only game in the Junior KCLR Scoreline.ie Division One League while there were wins for Newpark, Highview Athletic B, Thomastown United B, Stoneyford United and Spa United in the revamped Junior Division Two Emerald Tiles League.
The draw for the latest round of the McCalmont Cup also took place with the next round down for decision on the weekend of March 24 and 25.
