A number of major road infrastructure projects across the Piltown Municipal District continue to move through planning, design and construction stages, according to the latest roadworks programme update presented to local councillors.
Among the most significant projects is a €300,000 programme of safety improvements along the N25.
Kilkenny County Council said a draft options and feasibility report has been submitted to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for review, with a response expected this month before a programme of works is finalised.
On the N29 at Slieverue Roundabout and Port Road, a €900,000 resurfacing scheme is due to be carried out during 2026.
A letter of intent has already been issued to the contractor, with the appointment expected during July before a construction programme is confirmed.
Meanwhile, the €1.125 million N24 Rathkieran to Aglish resurfacing project has now been completed following the conclusion of Phase II works in May.
The report also provides updates on a number of other strategic projects, including the proposed N24 Carrick Road Mooncoin Safety Scheme, where An Coimisiún Pleanála has confirmed an oral hearing will take place and the council is preparing for it.
Elsewhere, work continues to advance the North South Link Road, Abbey Road and Belmont Road upgrades, the N29 Port Road Upgrade, the Piltown Rural Regeneration and Development Fund project and the countywide urban speed limit review, with public consultation on the latter expected by the end of July.
