Having to make funding pleas for flood protection schemes for Kilkenny communities over and over again has left some local councillors feeling like they are stuck in ‘Groundhog Day’.

Patience is wearing thin in communities first included in a funding announcement in 2018 - but that have still to see any progress.

Speaking at December's sitting of the Callan-Thomastown Municipal District, Fianna Fáil's Deirdre Cullen expressed concern over certain Kilkenny areas continually not featuring on the list for flood relief works.

"From my point of view it’s disappointing not to see Thomastown and Inistioge on the list," Cllr Cullen said.

The Bennettsbridge based councillor claimed it was like ‘groundhog day’ each year.

Executive Engineer, Philippe Beubry, responded by claiming they have not been given the go ahead from the OPW yet to carry out flood relief works in Thomastown or Inistioge, to which Ms Cullen replied she hopes the new OPW Minister will be more useful than the last.
