The girls can look forward to the next stage of their lives with great confidence,

Loreto Secondary School principal Colm Keher said there was great excitement in the school as the Class of 2024 received their Leaving Certificate results on Friday.

He said it was so satisfying for the community of teachers and parents to reflect on the magnificent achievements of the students who had worked so hard over the past couple of years.

“The girls can look forward to the next stage of their lives with great confidence, whether they progress to further education, training or the world of work,” he said.

The Loreto teachers expressed their delight also, and great tribute was paid especially to students who faced challenges, academically and otherwise, but who overcame those challenges in fine style.

Mr Keher said that he was so grateful for the team of teachers and support staff in Loreto who work so hard to get the best out of each student in their care.

“Loreto manages to maintain its exceptional academic tradition while at the same time providing the very best opportunities and support for all students, regardless of ability” he said.

The school has continued to broaden its curriculum in recent years and now offers an incredible 22 option subjects for Leaving Certificate. Loreto also offers the Leaving Certificate Applied programme that gives an alternative to the academic focus. Mr Keher gave great praise to this year’s class who achieved a record-breaking seven distinctions.

The principal advised students to make sure they adhere to all CAO deadlines carefully. He was very satisfied that the Loreto girls have put themselves in an excellent position on foot of the class’s outstanding set of results.  Some 25% of the cohort achieved 550 points or more, while 81% were in the 400 points-plus range.

Loreto students are constantly urged to be the best version of themselves and their teachers really work very hard to help each and every individual to reach her potential. Loreto has an excellent learning support programme, he said, with many students who started in secondary school with significant learning difficulties now in a position to continue their studies at third level.

Mr Keher went on to say that the school’s culture of care and commitment to extra-curricular activities also played a role.

“Students need to be happy in school to achieve their best and for most this is the opportunity to have fun with their friends and maintain their extra-curricular activities. For others it can involve the provision of special care when the need arise,” he said.
