Kilkenny County Council have announced their intention to seek permission from An Bord Pleanála for the construction of "Nore River Facilities Kilkenny" within County Hall grounds at College Park, John Street Lower, Kilkenny City.
The proposed development is planned to span approximately 0.24 hectares and includes a riverside facilities center with toilets, showers, a universally accessible bathroom, a changing room, storage spaces, and outdoor showers.
Plans feature a community block, covered terrace, and dedicated storage areas for equipment, including dragon boats and rowing boats.
Additional features include a pedestrian central space, boat wash-down area, and sloped access to the river, as well as a pontoon. Landscaping, lighting, bicycle parking, and universally accessible parking are also planned.
In support of the application, a Natura Impact Statement, Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening Report, and Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) have been submitted.
