An increased number of parking spaces and improved direction signage are just some of the recent improvements to facilitate better visitor access to Brandon Hill, the highest point in Kilkenny.

Local councillor Peter 'Chap' Cleere recently confirmed that Coillte have doubled the 25 bay car park to 50 spaces at the Raheendonore access point.

"This was done following on from strong representations made and in acknowledgment of the popularity of the route," he said.

Direction signage has also been added for the Brandon Hill Summit Walk, which is sign-posted from the Coillte barriers at Deerpark on the Graignamanagh side and at Raheendonore on the Inistioge side.

The signage provides clear directions for visitors wishing to reach the summit along the most direct trail.

The signs also provide visitors with the average walking time to reach the summit from each signed location.

Additional funding of €10,000 was also recently announced for the installation of a map board and some minor improvement works to the summit.
