Work has been completed on a new flood prevention pumping station on the R700 Bennettsbridge Road, near Kilkenny Castle.

A seven foot-deep chamber was excavated to house the pump, which is designed to automatically activate when water reaches a critical level, pumping it uphill under pressure to help prevent flooding.

Supplied by Campion, the system is monitored 24/7 by Kilkenny County Council, with text alerts issued when the pump activates or switches off.

Funded through the Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience (CCAR) grant, the Castle Road Pumping Chamber and Rising Main is one of four similar projects delivered across County Kilkenny by the local authority to strengthen local infrastructure against flooding.
