Kilkenny and District Soccer League lodge plans for Derdimus Park
At present, the planning application is awaiting validation from Kilkenny County Council
Kilkenny & District Soccer League have lodged a substantial planning application with Kilkenny County Council.
They are seeking planning permission for “the redevelopment of the Derdimus Park site to include upgrade of the existing grass pitch to a new full size Astro Pitch (100 x 66m).”
Also sought is permission for associated works including drainage, flood lighting, fencing, ball stop netting and all associated site development works.
According to the planning report submitted with the application: “In summary, the proposed development seeks to redevelop an existing soccer pitch by construction of an all-weather pitch, two concrete dug outs, 1.2m pitch side fence, 3m overrun area, 2.4m fence with 2.1m netting, a 2m path and 15m high flood lighting as per the lighting design accompanying this application.
“The proposed redevelopment will contribute positively to the overall experience of everyone using the pitch, improving player and spectator experience.
“The development does not introduce any new noise-generating sporting activities beyond the established use of the site, with the works limited to the redevelopment of the existing playing surface and associated infrastructure.
“The proposed floodlighting has been designed to minimise light spill and glare while ensuring the required lighting levels for the facility are achieved.”
At present, the planning application is awaiting validation from Kilkenny County Council.
Subject to validation, a decision on the planning application will be expected by September 21, 2026.
The expected date of decision may be pushed back if the local authority, upon reviewing the plans, seeks further information from the applicant.
