Kilkenny concert attended by musical royalty

The pair have entertained fans for many decades
Musical royalty attended the opening gig of Kilkenny Tradfest in St Canice's Cathedral on Friday night as Sharon Shannon and Richie Kavanagh attended.
The night proved to be a magical experience for audience members with Shannon leading the crowd in a heartfelt rendition of Happy Birthday to Richie, who was in the audience to celebrate.
"It was a magical tribute from one Irish music icon to another, a fitting moment of joy, respect, and camaraderie," spokesperson for Tradfest posted to social media.
"Richie, a man who has brought so much laughter and music into Irish homes, got to experience the warmth of a community that cherishes him. And Sharon, always the generous and spirited performer, reminded us once again why she holds such a special place in the hearts of music lovers across the globe.
"Moments like these are what make Irish music so powerful—it’s not just about the music, but the people, the connections, and the shared celebrations," they added.
"Happy birthday, Richie, and thank you, Sharon and Co for making it a night to remember under the Museum of the Moon," the post concluded.
