Gardaí in Kilkenny have taken to social media to address what they have described as the 'elephant in the room', after a recent vehicle seizure. "One of our lads seized this vehicle (above) under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act as it had no valid NCT," a garda spokesperson said. "But that's not the whole story. The car, owned and driven by a teenager, was stopped because it was belching out black smoke. "Upon stopping and further inspection it was found to have ABS and airbag warning lights on, cracked windscreen, no N plates and suspension modifications meaning there was no clearance between the rear wheels and arches. "This vehicle could not have passed a test despite having one booked so no allowance for queues etc. We have lost too many on our roads to ignore such vehicles. "It is no help not addressing the elephant in the room that a respect for other road users and ourselves demand that vehicles and behaviours are suitable for the highway. "The driver in this case was polite and mannerly when dealt with and we do not enjoy issuing penalties to such but it is far better than calling to the door to make a notification."
