Local gardaí were on patrol in South Kilkenny on Thursday

The Roads Policing unit of An Garda Síochana arrested one driver on suspicion of drug driving and issued numerous others with Fixed Charged Notices (FCNs) while on patrol in the Mooncoin, Piltown region of South Kilkenny.

The latest arrest is just one in a long line of drug driving arrests over recent months locally.

Meanwhile, a number of drivers were given summoned for having no NCT, holding a phone while driving and other offences.

"As is always the case, the vast majority of motorists were law abiding," a garda spokesperson said.

"On the subject of NCTs, they don't become due by surprise and Covid restrictions and long waiting lists are not what they were. Further to this, everyone detected had obvious defects meaning even if they got a booking, they would fail."
