Kilkenny gardaí seized several vehicles and arrested drivers in a major road crackdown.
A driver was arrested after fleeing a garda checkpoint, while another was caught drug-driving as the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) clampdown on illegality on local roads.
The driver of one car was arrested after turning away from a checkpoint and driving at speed through a residential area.
“Unfortunately his luck ran out when he had nowhere else to go. He was arrested, his car seized under Section 109a RTA and has a Charge Sheet for Dangerous Driving,” a garda social media post said.
“He must await the results of a sample to determine if further charges will be preferred.”
Meanwhile, the driver of a Passat vehicle had their car seized for failing to be roadworthy.
“This Passat drew the attention of our RPU members due initially to its Illegible front number plate,” the garda post continued.
“When stopped the vehicle had more woes immediately visible including NCT expired March 2025, torn bodywork, and tyres looking uncomfortable on their rims. The exhaust was particularly disturbing because not only was it facing upwards but it was emitting black smoke, a likely Reek map.
“The vehicle was seized for PSV examination.”
Furthermore, two e-scooters were seized in Urlingford on Wednesday morning.
“Both capable of over 55kmh, one with a design speed of over 70!!,” a garda spokesperson outlined.
“Both illegal falling massively outside regulations. Both drivers to be prosecuted for no insurance. Both users ignored the regulations. Both machines to be destroyed in 60 days if their owners aren't successful in application to the District Court.
“Just five minutes later, a speeding motorist was intercepted at 76kmh in a 50 zone, failed a roadside oral fluid test and was arrested for Drug Driving.”
