Council coffers received a notable boost in revenue from 'parking fines and charges' in Kilkenny in 2024.

According to Kilkenny County Council’s most recent unaudited Annual Financial Statement, 'parking fines and charges' raked in €2,602,829 last year, a jump from €2,341,199 in 2023.

This €261,630 increase in parking revenue could be indicitive both of the greater use of the local authority's car parking facilities and/or changes to income generated specifically by parking fines.

The financial records classify income from parking fines and charges under the broader category of 'income from goods and services', which collectively brought in €29.7 million in 2024.

Parking revenue alone accounted for a significant chunk of that, underscoring its importance to the council’s budget.

The two largest sources of income in this category were €12,060,728 in 'rent from houses' and €4,744,667 from Uisce Éireann.
