Kilkenny plays its part as EU Presidency begins in Ireland

The Presidency rotates among the EU’s 27 Member States every six months
Today (Wednesday) marks the start of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with Ireland taking a leading role in shaping EU priorities over the next six months.
Ireland has successfully held the Presidency seven times before, with ministers from all Member States coming together to adopt laws, coordinate policies and address shared challenges.
The Presidency rotates among the EU’s 27 Member States every six months. The presiding country chairs most Council meetings and helps guide the Council’s work.

In Kilkenny, the occasion was marked this morning by the raising of the Irish, E.U, and Kilkenny flags by Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr. Joe Malone at County Hall.
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Joe Malone was joined by Cathaoirleach of Castlecomer M.D. Cllr. Pat Fitzpatrick, Deputy Mayor Cllr. John Coonan, and Cathaoirleach of Callan-Thomastown M.D. and Leas-Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council Cllr. Deirdre Cullen.
