Kilkenny snooker star crowned US Masters champion in all-Irish final

Davy Morris came home with $7,000 after winning the tournament
Kilkenny’s Davy Morris was crowned US Masters champion in Seattle. He collected the first prize of $7,000, beating fellow Irishman Michael Judge 5-4 in the final.
It was a revenge mission for Morris as he had agononisly lost 5 -4 on the last black in last year’s tournament, held in Sacremento, to Renat Denkha.
The two popular Irish finalists and ex-professionals set up an exciting final in the tournament, which saw 39 players from the US, Republic of Ireland, England, Canada, India, Israel and Kuwait take part.
Morris advanced to the last 16 where he beat Charlie Brown 4-1. In the quarter-finals he saw off Callum Beresford 4-3, setting up a semi-final against Nitin Sharma, which he won 4-1.
In the final Morris took on Michael Judge. After losing the first frame 23-65 he bounced back and won the next three (63-40, 70-18, 71-31). Judge recovered, taking the next two frames (4-108, 41-71), before Morris edged ahead, taking the seventh frame 71-51. Judge levelled matters in frame eight (36-69) but a strong finish (71-1) saw Morris take the spoils.
