Kilkenny v Laois- Main Talking Points

Kilkenny 2-28 Laois 0-17
Main Man
Conahy Shamrocks star Tom Phelan is one of a number of players that Brian Cody is giving an opportunity to and the wing forward produced his best performance to date on Sunday. He scored 2-1 in total and as well as notching a goal in each half, he was influential in everything he did. Honourable mentions go to Alan Murphy, Martin Keoghan and Billy Ryan who also scored heavily.
Talking Point
Kilkenny were always in control of Sunday’s game and it was much less of a test than the previous outings with Antrim and Tipperary. Even without a number of key players, the Cats were on a different level to their Leinster neighbours.
Highlight
Scoring 2-28 will have pleased the Kilkenny management but with the opposition really struggling at the moment, getting more game time into Tom Phelan, Mikey Butler, David Blanchfield and Cian Kenny as well as subs Conor Heary and Shane Murphy will have been most pleasing.
Turning Point
Tom Phelan’s opening half goal essentially got Kilkenny into the groove and helped offset a promising start by Laois.
Lowlight
Kilkenny would have preferred a stiffer challenge ahead of the games with Dublin and Waterford.
