A man who is charged with making violent threats against gardaí and the families of gardaí has appeared before Kilkenny District Court.

Robert Culleton, 3 St Patrick’s Close, Kilkenny, is charged that on June 1, 2026, he obstructed a peace officer in the execution of their duty at St Patrick’s Place. He is also charged with two counts of making threats to kill or cause serious harm, at Kilkenny Garda Station on the same date.

The court heard it will be alleged that on June 1 gardaí had been dealing with Mr Culleton in relation to a separate matter when he became aggressive.

Sergeant Brigid Goode gave evidence that Mr Culleton made threats to gardaí including that he would “cut your neck,” that he knew where their families lived, that he had a bucket of sulphuric acid. He also told one garda “your mother will be lying on a slab” and he made threats towards a garda’s children.

Judge Geraldine Carthy refused jurisdiction in relation to the charges of making threats to kill or cause serious harm. She adjourned the matter to a court sitting in November to allow the DPP to give directions.
