Outgoing representative with Kilkenny County County, Cllr Matt Doran said 'never say never' when asked if he could stand in a future Local or Bye-Election.

Mr Doran announced he was stepping away from local politics earlier this year but told Kilkenny Live at the Lyrath Convention Centre earlier that a return to politics is not out of the question.

The outgoing councillor who served in the Callan-Thomastown Municipal District admitted it was an 'emotional' decision and that he has changed his mind more than once over the past number of months since revealing the news.

"Hugely emotional, sad in many many ways, I've just completed 22 years of a fantastic time for me. I have no regrets apart from maybe not fighting today," he told Kilkenny Live.

The Fianna Fáil councillor also paid tribute to Joe Sheridan who looks set to win his seat based on early tally figures - SEE MORE HERE
