The total number of dog breeding establishments registered in Kilkenny at the end of 2022 was nine, one less than at the end of 2021.
That's according to a recent government report that featured a county by county breakdown on dog control across the country.
Two of these establishments registered 6-18 bitches, three registered 19-30 bitches and four registered 31-100 bitches.
Five of these nine dog breeding establishments are assigned under the category ‘Hunt Club’.
Five inspections were conducted on newly registered dog breeding premises and 30 more were recorded on premises registered pre-2022.
No improvement notices or fixed penalties were issued to these premises during that time.
