Foróige held a special event at The Drum Youth Centre in Kilkenny City on Monday. The event highlighted the diverse youth work initiatives flourishing at The Drum, featuring the official launch of their recently refurbished digital space. Minister Roderic O'Gorman attended the event to mark the official unveiling of the enhanced digital space. Joining him was Minister of State Malcolm Noonan, local politicians including the Mayor of Kilkenny, young participants, and representatives from Kilkenny County Council, Tusla, the HSE, and Kilkenny Carlow ETB, demonstrating their commitment to youth development. Launching the space, Minister O’Gorman stated, “I’m really honoured to be here today to open this amazing new facility for young people here in Kilkenny City. It really speaks to the importance that Kilkenny as a city has placed on its young people, that there is such a prominent venue for their services here in the centre of the city. “The emphasis that Foróige has placed on broadening out its offer into the digital area is so important. Foróige has always recognised the diversity of interests of the young people and has always looked to serve that.” The interactive event invited attendees to participate in various youth work activities and explore the technological advancements within the newly refurbished space. This showcase not only emphasised the significance of youth work initiatives in supporting young people to develop crucial 21st Century skills, but also provided a platform for collaboration and engagement between the community, stakeholders, and young individuals. The rejuvenated digital space, made possible through the generous support of HSBC, basis.point and Kilkenny County Council, is poised to be a valuable addition to the array of services available to young people and the community in Kilkenny. This development is expected to elevate youth work outcomes and provide an empowering environment for the various projects based at The Drum.
