New Ross singers to perform Stainer’s ‘The Crucifixion’ - Kilkenny Live

New Ross Singers are performing the short but very evocative work, Stainer’s ‘The Crucifixion’, at 7.30pm on Friday, March 22 in the Church of the Assumption, Rosbercon.
They have engaged two of Ireland’s excellent soloists for the event.
Andrew Gavin is the tenor, and he completed his Masters in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2016, achieving First Class Honours under the tuition of Mary Brennan.
He is also a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, where he attained First Class Honours in English Literature. He also holds an M. Phil in Children’s Literature from Trinity College, Dublin.
In 2016, he was awarded the PwC/Wexford Festival Opera Emerging Young Artist Bursary.
From there he has progressed in the music world to the stage that he is often to be seen and heard in opera and oratorio all over the country.
The bass is Shokri Raoof who is from Castleknock in Dublin and lives in Berlin.
He studied at Hochschule fur Musik ‘Hahns Eisler’, Berlin under the tutelage of Scot Weir.
He has worked with several opera companies in Ireland and abroad including Opera Theatre Company, Lyric Opera Productions, Wide Open Opera and About Turn Theatre.
He will be performing St. John’s Passion with the Dublin Bach Singers on Sunday, March 24, alongside Andrew who will be singing the part of the Evangelist.
‘The Crucifixion’ is, as you would expect, a dramatic telling of the happenings on Good Friday.
The music is full of harmony with lovely and varied choruses for the choir, who are busy putting the finishing touches to the work.
