The Mullinavat Community Walkway at the local GAA grounds was officially opened in front of a large crowd on St Stephen’s Day.

The opening was conducted in conjunction with the annual GOAL mile event.

Parish priest Fr Liam Barron, who blessed the walkway, praised the great work of the local club in constructing such a tremendous facility for the people of the area.

John Joe Aylward, chairman of Mullinavat GAA Club, spoke of the huge volunteer work that has been done on this project to date.

He acknowledged all those who had supported the fund-raising initiatives and those who made donations which enabled the project to be delivered and he also acknowledged the grant assistance from Kilkenny Co Council.

The cutting of the ribbon to officially open the walkway was done by three of the club’s four living presidents: Richie Carroll, Ned Haberlin and Liam Kenneally. The club’s fourth president Jim Conway, who was unable to attend, was also remembered as someone who had greatly participated in everything the club has achieved over the years.

Once the ribbon was cut everyone set off walking or running their mile on a crisp December morning.

Mullinavat GAA Club would like to encourage the use of the walkway by everybody in the years ahead.
