Permission had originally been granted by Kilkenny County Council (subject to five conditions)

A planning application approved by Kilkenny County Council seeking to convert a former betting office at Irishtown/Dean Street (R95 XK40) into a café has been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.

The planned devlopment was to include a coffee and cake area, kitchen, seating zones, toilets, and a new shopfront design featuring subtle modern touches and an external awning.

One submission was received in relation to the original application, and Kilkenny County Council decided to grant planning permission, subject to five conditions, on June 23, 2025.

That decision has since been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála, the national planning body.

An Coimisiún Pleanála are due to make a decision by November 17, 2025.
