RIP: Seamus McGarry gave a lifetime of service to The Kilkenny People

With 48 years at The Kilkenny People, including 38 years under the Kerry Keane family, Seamus left an indelible mark
The Kilkenny People recently bade an emotional farewell to a dedicated former colleague, Seamus McGarry, who passed away after living a life marked by devotion — to his family, his community, and nearly half a century of service to this newspaper.
Born on Barrack Street in Kilkenny City in 1946 and later a long-time resident of Bennettsbridge, Seamus was a familiar and respected figure to generations of readers and staff alike.
With 48 years at The Kilkenny People, including 38 years under the Kerry Keane family, Seamus left an indelible mark.
He is remembered not only for his meticulous work but for his loyalty, honesty, and straight-talking wit.
Seamus and his wife Eileen (married in 1969) built a life filled with love, loyalty, and warmth.
Outside of his job, Seamus lived a life rich in simplicity, laughter and lasting friendships.
He enjoyed spending Monday nights in Connolly’s of Dunbell playing cards and had a passion for all things Kilkenny GAA.
In later years, he and his beloved wife Eileen discovered a second home in Kusadasi, Turkey, where they created many memories.
Seamus passed away peacefully at home, on July 22, after a short illness, surrounded by family.
He is the beloved husband of Eileen (née Healy) and much loved father of Angela, James, Siobhán and Samantha.
Seamus will be dearly missed by his loving family, brother Thomas, sisters Eileen (McCarthy), Breda (Cleere), Ann (Kennedy) and Bernie (Nolan), son-in-law Eddie, daughter-in-law Emilie, grandchildren Darragh, Kellie and Megan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
He is predeceased by his parents Tommy and Elizabeth, sister Maura (Carey) and daughter-in-law Vanessa.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
