The Gowran on the Move Committee were delighted to turn the sod on what will be a future community hub/playground last Friday.

The outdoor community flagship will have inclusive play equipment that will make it the first of its kind in Europe.

Chairman and local councillor Denis Hynes said 'we have a very hard working and committed committee and we are all driving to complete this project which is costing in excess of €500,000'.

He went on to say, “we have been very fortunate in receiving €250k in funding from Town & Village, €100k from Leader and only last Friday we secured €45k from Kilkenny County Council. We are extremely grateful for this”.

Anne Marie Shortall, Senior Executive Officer of Kilkenny County Council, said that the local authority are delighted to be part of this ambitious project, supporting the development with capital funding.

"Its inclusive features will be one of a kind in Europe which makes it a very exciting project for County Kilkenny," she said.

The committee are hopeful of having the community hub/playground completed by November.
