A series of songwriting workshops are set to take place in Kilkenny as part of the Kilkenny City Night Time Economy initiative, which aims to encourage people to come into the city in the evening and experience a wider range of creative, cultural and social events.

Songs After Dark will take place at the Hole in the Wall, Kilkenny, guided by award-winning singer-songwriter Luan Parle. Each workshop will be a masterclass in songwriting, exploring song structure, melody, lyrics, chord progressions, arrangement and storytelling, culminating in the creation of an original group song by the end of each workshop.

The workshops are open to everyone, whether you have written many songs before or have never written a song at all. No previous songwriting experience is necessary. If you play an instrument, you’re encouraged to bring it along, although this is not necessary to take part.

Each workshop is stand-alone, so participants can attend one, two, three or all four sessions. Booking is essential - see link below.

Luan Parle is an award-winning Irish singer-songwriter, musician and creative facilitator, whose career in music began at a very young age. She signed her first record deal at just 12 years old and has gone on to build an extensive career as a recording artist and songwriter, including touring internationally and working with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

Alongside her career as a recording artist, Luan has developed extensive experience in songwriting education, creative facilitation and community arts, working with schools, community groups, libraries, arts organisations and cultural projects. Her work has included songwriting programmes with IMRO, the Department of Education, Music Generation and Creative Schools, as well as community and intergenerational projects.

Her recent community songwriting project, Songs of Our Place, brought together over 300 participants across schools and community groups in Kilkenny, resulting in the creation of original songs inspired by the stories, experiences and places of the participants. The project was fully funded by The Watergate Theatre.

Luan is passionate about making songwriting accessible to everyone and creating welcoming spaces where people can develop their creativity, discover their own voice and experience the process of creating an original song from an initial idea through to completion.
