Evergreen 1, Kildrum Tigers 0
Evergreen advanced to the last 16 of the FAI Junior Cup with a dramatic late winner over Kildrum Tigers (Donegal) on Sunday.
Gary Maher’s team, who played for an hour with ten men following the dismissal of Mikey Clifford, had the better of the chances throughout. The best of which came in stoppage time when Ify Nzewi hit a shot over the crossbar.
However, Ify didn’t spurn the second opportunity, finishing a move featuring Ethan Phelan and Mikey Drennan just moments later.
“I wasn't sharp enough when that opportunity came. The ball came across really, really quickly so I said, next time I'm in the box, if I get half a chance, just stay switched on,” Ify commented after the match, adding, “I got a second chance and took it then.”
“We really enjoyed it out there in the sun, proper battle. Down to ten men, we were really up against it but look, together as a team we dug in.
“We really put it (the work) in and look, credit to the boys that we were able to get that half chance at the end and take the game,” he added.
“The journey is often the best part and hopefully now we can make this one a special year for the club.”
