The North Quays Project Team have issued an update on the progress being made on infrastructure works that will have a huge impact in both South Kilkenny and Waterford.

Just over a year since works commenced, works have ‘advanced significantly and are progressing well’.

The substructure works for the sustainable transport bridge over the River Suir are continuing, with works advancing on all four of the bridge piers while the steel deck superstructure is being fabricated overseas in Belgium.

The pile support slab for the South Plaza is also now 50% complete.

On the Ferrybank side of the River Suir, the piling for the transport hub concourse, platforms and the southern support walls for the station concourse and columns are now ‘substantially complete’.

Work is also progressing on the support walls to the northern side of the railway line.

Irish Rail are continuing to install a new railway track to the south of the existing railway track.

The road and access infrastructure is also progressing well, with works continuing on the various bridge structures.

Earlier this week, new traffic management measures were implemented in the Ferrybank area, and these measures are expected to be in place for the next six to eight weeks.

Fountain Street has seen the closure of the left outbound lane while the right outbound lane has reopened from Rockshire Road to the Abbey Road junction.

The inbound route between Plunkett Train Station and the Rockshire Road has reverted to two lanes.
