Three Kilkenny players named on minor camogie team of the year

Kilkenny's Rachel Phelan, Ciara O'Shea and Ciara Dunne have been rewarded for big years in being named on the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Star Team of the Year.

The trio were influential as Kilkenny made it to an All-Ireland semi-final before losing out to eventual winners Tipperary.

Having played and excelled in midfield in her post-primary school team earlier this year, it’s a measure of Rachel Phelan’s versatility that she was so impressive in defence for Kilkenny minors, balancing her primary duties with fine ball-playing.

In 2023, Ciara O’Shea was key in her club run to the Kilkenny senior final. In the 2024 minor championship, she was again to the fore, tireless throughout as the Cats made the All-Ireland semi-final, only losing to Tipperary after extra time.

Ciara Dunne’s sharp-shooting is well documented in Kilkenny, helping her team to reach the All-Ireland semi-finals and they came so close to beating Tipperary before the game went to extra time, which Tipp won.

Away from the Kilkenny stars, Tipperary is well represented with six players included, while beaten finalists Waterford have three representatives on the team. Beaten semi-finalists Cork are also represented on this year’s team with two players while one player from the Galway panel also features.

This year’s Electric Ireland Minor Star Camogie Player of the Year is Tipperary’s Sarah Corcoran. The Moycarkey-Borris maestro captained her side to All-Ireland victory with a string of outstanding performances in the competition. Corcoran’s strong presence in the Tipperary defence made life difficult for every attacker that came up against her, particularly in the All-Ireland Final where she also picked up the Player of the Match award.
