Glenmore Hall are embracing the instrument with classes each week

Ukelele classes will be held every Thursday in Glenmore Hall at 8.15pm. Fee is €8, with all welcome to join.

Developed in the 1880s, the ukulele is based on several small, guitar-like instruments of Portuguese origin, the machete, cavaquinho, timple, and rajão, introduced to the Hawaiian Islands by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira, the Azores and Cape Verde and has proved popular both at home and abroad, with many performers using the instrument in performances across a range of festivals in Kilkenny down through the years.
