Kilkenny 4-21 Dublin 1-17

The under-19 Hurling Development League came to its conclusion last Thursday night when Kilkenny defeated Dublin in front of a decent attendance at UPMC Nowlan Park.

The young cats came into this clash on the back of group stage wins over Dublin, Wexford and Offaly and they kept the winning run going with another decent display.

Sean Hunt has been the standout performer throughout the competition and he was excellent once again in scoring 2-4 from play.

Dicksboro’s Mikey Stynes and Thomastown’s Colm Treacy also got in for goals as Mark Aylward’s men dominated for large periods.

As well as the goalscorers, Ed Lauhoff with three points and Jamie Lyng and Darragh Vereker all showed promise as Kilkenny end the campaign with some much merited silverware in the windup.

While Kilkenny’s opponents were on the backfoot for the most part, their midfielder Gearoid Flannery still played his part as he scored 1-10 in a big individual showing.

The players on both sides will now hope they are in a position to make a mark at under 20 and senior level in the near future and if they achieve that, then this competition will have been more than worthwhile.
