Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has issued an update that's good news for Kilkenny

As Storm Herminia approaches, Carlow Weather have stated that thankfully the 'worst of the winds are to stay out to sea'.

"Still some strong winds and there will be some very big seas that could impact ferry crossings," he added.

"If you are sick of this bad weather then the good news is that weather model trends show higher pressure building for end of coming week and the Bank Holiday Weekend with milder air and some calmer weather looking likely."

Met Éireann have issued Status Yellow wind and rain warnings for 12 counties as Storm Herminia arrives hot on the heels of Storm Éowyn.

Counties issued Status Yellow rain warnings are Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford. The Irish forecaster says heavy downpours of rain may lead to spot flooding in affected areas.

The rain warning is valid from 5am until 5pm on Sunday, January 26.

A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford. Wicklow. Galway. Mayo and Sligo as well as the wider Munster area. Strong and gusty winds pose a risk of further damage to already weakened structures and trees as well as causing dangerous travelling conditions.

The wind warning is valid from 6am until 6pm on Sunday, January 26.

There is a second Status Yellow wind warning for Cork, Kerry and Waterford which will come into effect 11pm on Sunday, January 26 and is valid until 6am on Monday, January 27.
