Work is continuing in the Newtown area of Waterford city

A busy road in Waterford city is closed from today as roadworks continue in the area.

A temporary road closure is in place on Passage Road as part of construction work in the Newtown area of the city.

The road is closed from St Alphonsus Road to the junction at John's Hill to facilitate infrastructure works.

The infrastructure works are in relation to the St. John of God National School, Passage Road, Active Travel Safe Routes to School Scheme (SRTS), and the Newtown Area One-Way Systems (Phases 1 and 2).

The trial one-way systems that have been in place are being formalised through the installation of permanent infrastructure as part of these works.

The works for the above SRTS Scheme and one-way systems are taking place on or adjacent to Passage Road, John’s Hill, Wilkin’s Street, St. Alphonsus Road, Newtown Lower and Water Street.

The appointed contractors are implementing traffic management systems for the duration of the works.

All traffic management arrangements fully comply with current health and safety standards (Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual).

As the works are taking place on or adjacent to public roads, residents and road users may experience some disruption.

Waterford City and County Council has said that every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience.
