Cllr Frank Quinlan has raised concerns over the traffic on Stephen’s Street in Waterford city

Concerns have been raised over the tailbacks being caused by the traffic lights at a busy junction in Waterford city.

Fine Gael councillor Frank Quinlan addressed the issue in a post on social media last week.

In the Instagram post, Cllr Quinlan wrote: “I have contacted the Senior Roads Engineer at Waterford Council to address the issue on St. Stephen’s Street.

“The frequency of the lights is only allowing a few cars through, causing tailbacks especially at school times when parents need to get to work.”

He went on to outline the issues that are preventing traffic flow in the area.

“You have traffic coming from Patrick Street, down from Bachelor’s Walk and up from Alexander Street, merging into Stephen’s Street.

“Very little traffic comes down from Barrack Street towards Brown’s Lane and traffic coming up from New Street is not allowed up New Gate Street.”

Cllr Quinlan concluded by calling on the light times to be changed to allow traffic flow from three different directions.
