‘Dangerous situation’ in Waterford city as road markings ‘completely disappeared’

There is a “dangerous situation” in Waterford city as the markings on multiple roads have “completely disappeared”, a council meeting has heard.
The issue was raised by independent councillor Donal Barry at the July meeting of the Waterford Metropolitan District.
Cllr Barry said: “Throughout the Cherrymount estate, the road markings at junctions have almost completely disappeared. “It’s creating a dangerous situation as drivers are edging further out the roadway before exiting junctions.
“I ask that all junction markings throughout the estate be repainted as a matter of priority.”
He went on to outline a similar situation at a nearby junction on a main road in the city.
“The junction at Barrack Street and Manor Hill is one of the busiest in the city.
“The junction markings, yellow box and the road markings leading up to the pedestrian crossing at Spar have faded to the point where they are barely visible.
“These markings should be repainted as soon as possible.”
In response, Paul Johnston, Senior Engineer at Waterford City and County Council, said that the repainting of the road markings will be included under a future roads programme.
