Waterford FC made the announcement in a post on social media following talks with Irish Rail

There will be an extra train service from Waterford to Dublin on the day of the FAI Cup Final due to “phenomenal” demand, it has been announced.

Waterford FC made the announcement in a post on social media this morning.

A club spokesperson said: “Waterford FC are delighted to announce that Irish Rail will be running an additional train service direct to Dublin Heuston on Sunday, November 8 from Waterford Plunkett Station.

“Departing at 10:15am on Sunday morning from Waterford Plunkett, the train to Dublin will run direct to Dublin Heuston.

“There will also be a special return train available from 7:20pm Dublin Heuston after the game that will run back to Waterford Plunkett Station

“Train tickets for both services will be on sale on irishrail.ie in the coming days.”

Tickets for both services are already available to purchase on the Irish Rail website.

It comes after Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane wrote to Irish Rail and the National Transport Authority (NTA) over the issue.

The only other train from Waterford to Dublin on the morning of the match, departing Plunkett Station at 9:05am, is already sold out.

Thousands of tickets have been sold for the Waterford end of the Aviva Stadium ahead of the Blues’ first cup final appearance since 2004.

Tickets are now on sale for the upper tier of the stand, with Waterford FC stating that this is due to “phenomenal demand”.

The FAI Cup Final between Waterford FC and Derry City will take place at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 8, with kick-off at 3pm.
