Repair works on Clock Tower in Waterford city on hold after council denied funding

An update was provided at the June plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council
Repair works on the Clock Tower in Waterford city are on hold after the local authority was denied Government funding for the project, a council meeting has heard.
Social Democrats councillor Mary Roche enquired about the status of works on the Clock Tower at the June plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
In response, Senior Engineer Seán Dobbs outlined the situation with regards funding for repair works.
Mr Dobbs said: “We’re in the process of providing power so we can activate the Clock Tower clock faces.
“The council did apply for funding under the Historic Structures Fund to do conservation works on the Clock Tower.
“Unfortunately, that was unsuccessful this year so the council will apply next year for the funding.
“I believe it was very marginal that we didn’t get funding this year so we would be hopeful of getting funding next year and we would prepare for that application.”
He concluded by saying that in the meantime, the council will focus on getting the clock faces working again.
