Elsewhere, €18,700 has been allocated to surveying bats in bridges and €12,750 will go towards the surveying of proposed Natural Heritage Areas (pNHAs).
Making the announcement, Minister Cummins hailed the importance of Waterford’s nature projects.
“Local authorities play an important role in protecting our biodiversity and I’d like to congratulate Waterford City and County Council for their work on these important projects.
“Our sand dunes at Tramore and along the Backstrand are stunning places, and this funding will continue work to restore and enhance them for nature.
“Funding will also help to restore wetlands at Duckspool in Dungarvan and remove invasive species from Goff’s Wood along the banks of the River Suir.
“I would like to thank all of the community and heritage groups for their positive engagement with the local authority in planning these projects and for protecting our natural heritage in Waterford.”
The Local Biodiversity Action Fund was originally established in 2018 to assist local authorities in implementing biodiversity actions.
With the evaluation phase complete, local authorities will now begin the implementation of these projects.
