The incident occurred on the Dunmore Road in Waterford city last week

A Waterford dog owner has been left “deeply upset” after his “helpless puppy” was hit by a car.

Richard Farrell detailed the incident in a Facebook post to the ‘Dunmore Road and Waterford East News’ group on Wednesday, June 4.

He stated: “I hope this is allowed to be posted as I’m deeply upset by the incident that occurred.

“This morning, at around 8:05am, my puppy ran onto the main Dunmore road.

“I am asking the owner of a black estate car to please PM me as they did a hit and run and left my helpless puppy who they hit speeding down the road at more than 50km/h.

“This happened right by the strawberry van parked up by the Brass Cock church. They were heading in the direction of Dunmore.”

Mr Farrell added that he has details of the car’s make, model and registration.

He concluded by asking the driver of the car to come forward privately.
