Waterford man wins prestigious award from Bus Éireann

The Bus Éireann engineer picked up the award at a glamorous event
A Waterford man has picked up a big award from his employer Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company.
The company celebrated its employees’ achievements in 2023 at the national annual GEM (‘Go the Extra Mile’) Awards, which recognises excellent customer service, community impact, performance and forward-thinking.
Awards were issued in several different categories including Apprentice of the Year, Depot of the Year, Executive of the Year as well as Driver and Community Awards.
Engineers are a vital part of the Bus Éireann family – they are essential to keeping our buses moving. Therefore, it is certainly true that one of the most important awards is ‘Engineering Operative of the Year’. Patrick Lynagh has been announced as this year’s truly deserving winner.
Patrick, who works at the Waterford depot, has dedicated almost four decades of his career to Bus Éireann – a remarkable achievement in itself. In that time, he has garnered a reputation from colleagues as a friendly, helpful, and talented engineering operative who can always be relied upon.
The key characteristic for Patrick to have achieved so much and to deserve this award has been his collaborative approach to the working with others. Congratulations, Patrick, on this fantastic achievement!
Bus Éireann has proudly carried out over 99 million passenger journeys this year and currently holds a 91% customer satisfaction rating. The work of our dedicated staff is key to our goal of delivering an excellent public transport service to our customers.
