Elliott List netted in stoppage time for the Cobblers.

Northampton manager Chris Hogg praised his substitutes after Elliott List came off the bench to score a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Accrington.

After what he called a disappointing first half, Hogg made changes and List came on in the 75th minute. He got the ball in the second minute of added time and fired home to rescue a point for the Cobblers.

It was heartbreak for Stanley, who had taken a fifth-minute lead through on-loan Bolton striker Charlie Warren and had looked on course for a win which would have taken them into the play-off places.

Hogg said: “It was a snatch in the end. The first half was nothing we want to be as a football team and we had a good discussion at half-time. It was nowhere near the levels we expected or the competitive element you need.

“I take a lot of the responsibility for the first half and we made changes, tweaked a few bits, tried to be smarter and it’s credit to the boys, we managed to find a way. That’s what good teams do – find a way to get something out of the game when you are not at your best.

“We carried more of a threat in the second half, we had chances without being at our more creative and I am sure Accrington will feel frustrated as they played well.

“It was a great finish from Listy, he made a decent impact coming on. You always know you will get a moment and we showed character and grit. We kept going and showed energy at the end.”

John Doolan’s Stanley extended their unbeaten league run to eight games but they were frustrated as they missed a number of chances.

“We should have won, we should have seen it out,” said the Reds boss. “We had chances in the game to make sure that happened and didn’t take them.

“It was a great goal from Charlie with a good touch and finish. Charlie is a top player, a good finisher, which is why we brought him to the club, and he is getting better, shown by the goals he has scored for us.

“The lads gave everything, they showed individual skill and they are doing everything for the shirt and the club.

“However, at 1-0 the opponent is always going to be in the game. There are moments like that, it’s cruel.

“We are disappointed, it feels like a defeat. I know we have kept our unbeaten run going but we have got to see that out.

“The lads are down but we will get them going again. There is no reason why we can’t go further up the league.”
