Fleetwood backed up their midweek Carabao Cup exploits with a 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers at Highbury.

Matt Lawlor’s side, who knocked Premier League champions Arsenal out of the tournament on Tuesday night, picked up the three points thanks to goals from Aaron Loupalo-Bi, Rhys Bennett and Josh Roberston.

The Cod Army opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark through on-loan Fulham striker Loupalo-Bi when he finished neatly from just outside the area following some tidy work from Mark Helm.

The hosts then doubled their lead seven minutes into the second period thanks to a bullet header from centre-back Rhys Bennett when he got on the end of Harrison Neal’s driven cross.

The visitors looked to have set up a nervy ending when Reiss Russell-Denny’s looping cross floated over Jay Lynch and into the net at the far post to half the deficit heading into the last five minutes.

However, substitute Robertson sealed the win for the hosts minutes later when he coolly slotted home after being played in on goal by Will Davies.

Steve Evans’ Bristol Rovers have now lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions and five consecutive away league games.
