Four teenagers were named on the bench for Newcastle’s clash against Hull as a lengthening injury list handed boss Matthias Jaissle further selection conundrums.

In recent weeks, the Magpies have been without captain Dan Burn and vice-captain Joelinton along with Will Osula and Ewen Jaouen. However, they were handed fresh blows for Saturday’s match against Hull.

In Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Jaissle said he was hopeful that Anthony Elanga’s injury “isn’t too serious” before revealing that Amar Dedic and Jacob Ramsey would also be sidelined for the game, along with Nico Gonzalez.

Saturday’s teamsheet revealed the extent of Newcastle’s growing injury worries, with Tino Livramento also added to the list of absentees.

Jaissle subsequently named four teenagers on the bench with 19-year-old Vakhtang Salia and 18-year-old Mason Miley among the substitutes alongside Kyran Thompson – who made his first start for Newcastle’s under-21s on Tuesday – and Michael Mills, both 17.

There was also room for 21-year-old Miodrag Pivas, who had featured for the first team during pre-season.

Four members of the senior team made up the remainder of the bench with Nick Pope, Fabian Schar, Aladji Bamba and Bazoumana Toure all named.

Despite their injury woes, two goals in the opening seven minutes helped Newcastle claim a 2-1 win over Hull, but Jaissle will be hoping to have more personnel back after the international break.
