Huddersfield’s Martin Drury felt ‘real quality’ was on display in Luton draw

Both managers reflected positively on their squad’s performances.
Both Martin Drury and Jack Wilshere went away from Accu Stadium pleased with much of what they saw from their respective Huddersfield and Luton sides, but disappointed that they ultimately ended up with a point each.
Luton took the lead against the run of play through Jordan Clark shortly before the break, only for Joe Taylor to volley home an equaliser within minutes of the restart.
Huddersfield head coach Drury said: “If you take the game and split it into moments in isolation, I’m disappointed with the goal we conceded – really disappointed with it.
“But I thought even amongst some of the chaos and tightness of both teams, they both showed real quality.
“I think that’s what you get when both teams have got good players, and I thought there were some interesting one-v-one duels all over the pitch.
“I don’t look at any of my players tonight and think they didn’t have a good game – I can’t pick out players who didn’t perform. I thought they performed well.
“I think it probably tells you where we are as a group that everyone’s got their head down and the dressing room is flat because we’ve taken a point and we wanted three, and we wanted to win.
“But I’m really pleased with the mentality of that group that they’re disappointed with a point.
“They’re disappointed because we want to keep getting better and developing from a cultural perspective, also from a performance perspective.”
Luton boss Wilshere said: “Against a good team, I felt in the first half we started well.
“We played into their hands a little bit towards the end of the first half and they started to get on the front foot a bit, which they’re good at. There’s a reason they are where they are. They do that consistently well, and I think we came out of that situation well.
“We scored in the first half and we felt in the second half we could go and take the game to them. We knew they were going to start fast. The idea was to soak that up.
“I thought, in general, we did soak that up apart from that moment. It was a really good finish from Taylor.
“Then we came back into the game and probably in the second half you saw two good teams that were both trying to win.
“Momentum in this league – at any level of football, actually – is really important, and it gives you confidence, which is really important that we continue to build.
“We try and isolate each game when we prepare for it, but we’re also aware of the run we’ve been on, and we didn’t come into the game thinking ‘we’ll take a point’.”
