The first term ended on a high note for many students in Errigal College when their good attendance was rewarded.
Principal Mr Danny McFadden realised the importance of good attendance and he set up a school committee to monitor every student's attendance. Mr Hugo Dorrian now coordinates this team.
"Attendance is one of the most important ingredients in getting a good education,” he said. "Attend today and achieve tomorrow is our message, and it is getting through to our students. We're delighted and proud of our students, and we're going to keep telling them.
"We held a pizza party for our best junior classes. A raffle was held during the celebrations and some of the good attendees were further rewarded with prizes provided by the School Completion team, Linda Gallagher and Annette Patton. Some of the senior students also received Shop LK vouchers."
A special draw was held among the senior students and a €50 Shop LK voucher was won by Armstrong Abah. A €50 Shop LK voucher was also won by sixth year student Rebecca Lawrence in 'The Importance of School Attendance' essay competition.
The Department of Education's TUSLA Education Support Service recently launched an attendance initiative. Looks like Errigal College is ahead of the pack again!
The winners in the senior students section were: Zainab Shahzadi, Lotta Tiedje, Chloe Boyle Kennedy, Matanda Ndyamba, Diarmaid Ó'Fionnáin, Cathal Morrison, Eimear Seery, Sylvia Pasterak, JoAnn Evans and Angel Nugent
