Donegal Civil Defence held its annual presentation of awards in the Villa Rose Hotel, Ballybofey on Friday.
Last July, the Donegal County Council, Economic Development, Emergency, Enterprise, and Information Systems Strategic Policy Committee at its meeting, having considered the voluntary contribution of the Donegal Civil Defence Members, endorsed the decision to acknowledge the work and commitment of each and every volunteer, past and present in their role. The award was presented on the night by Cllr Gerry McMonagle, Leas Cathaoirleach to Mr. Paidin Doherty, Civil Defence County Commander, who received the award on behalf of the members. Council members in attendance to celebrate the occasion with the volunteers, were Cllr Micheál Naughton, Cllr. Ciaran Brogan, Cllr. Liam Doherty and Cllr Patrick McGowan.
Other awards presented on the night were Training Certification, Long Service Medals and Officer Promotions. The Dept of Defence was represented on the night by Ms. Roisin McGuire, Civil Defence College Principle, Roscrea, who presented the training certificates.
Mr. John McLaughlin, CE, Donegal County Council, presented 10years Service Medals to Amy Bradley (Letterkenny MD), Donal Bonner (Stranorlar MD), Phonsie McAteer, (Milford MD), Paul Dunnion (Stranorlar MD), and Martin McBrearty (Donegal MD) . During his speech, Mr John McLaughlin acknowledged the service of all the volunteers and in particular the service of, Mr. James Dolan, Stranorlar, who has given 50yers continuous service to Civil Defence. James will be presented with his award, at a function in Dublin on 7th March, where the medals for service of 30yrs , 40yrs and 50yrs will be presented.
Mr. Garry Martin, Director of Service, Economic Development, Information Systems & Emergency Services presented 3rd Officer Promotions to Martin McBrearty (Donegal MD), Amy Bradley (Letterkenny MD), and 2nd Officer Promotions were presented to Davy Leonard (Milford MD), Leno Da Silva – (Letterkenny MD), Pat Flynn, (Stranorlar MD) and Paul Dunnion, (Stranorlar MD).
