In Pictures: Dr Alfie Mannion retires after 50 years in medicine

The event which took place on Friday, April 26, celebrated Dr Mannion's distinguished career and contributions to the Donegal community and beyond.

Dr Alfie Mannion, known for his expertise, compassion, and dedication, spent decades serving the local community. His retirement marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter. Friends, family, colleagues, and patients gathered to celebrate the occasion.

The evening featured speeches from Alfie's daughter Laura, John Hayes, former Health services manager with the HSE, and Jennifer Glenn, Practice Nurse at The Grove Medical Practice. Their stories and reflections honoured Dr Mannion's career and his impact on countless lives.

Annette Myers, the Practice Manager, The Grove Medical Practice, said: “On behalf of Dr Mannion's staff, I would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all the medical personnel, friends, and patients who attended. It was a great turnout to celebrate a remarkable man as he retires from the practice."

Attendees included Mayor Pauric Kennedy, former classmates Connal Mac a Bhaird and Dr John Coghlan, and former colleagues Dr Austin O’Kennedy, Dr John McHardy, Dr Marie Drumgoole, Dr Michael Cooke, Dr Charlie Bourke, Dr Dara Scally and Dr Vinny Brett.
