Despite the rain, there was a great turnout for the Walk in Memory of Martin event at Leghowney on bank holiday Monday. Click on the arrows to see Philip Mulligan's photos.
Members of the wider Donegal Town community joined those in Leghowney to take part in the 7km Leghowney Loop in memory of Martin Travers.
The grey skies did little to dispel the warm atmosphere as people of all ages came together to enjoy the scenic walk and to remember Martin Travers, a man who was instrumental in overseeing the installation of the six new information boards along the walk.
A Leghowney Hall Committee spokesperson said the walk was “in memory of our dear friend, neighbour and Hall Committee member Martin Travers who sadly passed away on November 14, 2023.
“His passing was a shock to us all and he is very much missed from our wee team here at the hall for his kindness, easy-going and obliging manner.
“A true gentleman who could turn his hand to any job, big or small. He just got on with things in his own quiet way, with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. Rest in peace Martin.”
There was no entry fee for the walk, but anyone who wished to do so made a voluntary contribution to Solace Donegal Cancer Support Centre and MS Ireland Donegal Branch.
And of course in keeping with true Leghowney hospitality, there will be a cuppa and a scone in the Hall following the walk.
