Kilcar’s Nabla Diver celebrated her 106th birthday, surrounded by family, friends and neighbours.
The celebration took place at Killybegs Community Hospital, where Nabla has been residing. “There was a big turnout and she really enjoyed it,” Nabla’s niece, Brid McGinley, told DonegalLive.
Born on September 11, 1919, in Shannagh, Kilcar, Nabla was the youngest of six children. She has a niece and a nephew, Brid McGinley and Paddy O’Donnell, who live locally and are very much involved. Nabla also has six grandnephews and three grandnieces, all of whom reside in Donegal.

The 106-year-old has always lived very independently and has adhered to a healthy lifestyle, having never smoked or drank. “She never got stressed and always had a healthy diet,” Brid adds. “She just keeps going and never complains.”
Nabla was an avid knitter and baker and occasionally shared her talents with the community. Every week, she cycled three miles to get the weekly shopping.
Nabla recently received her sixth Centenarian Bounty from President Michael D Higgins. A special commemorative coin, which is designed annually, along with a congratulatory letter signed by the President.
Nabla’s family would like to extend a thank you to Killybegs Community Hospital for the great standard of care they have provided.
