Over 80 participants attended the conference, which included talks by both national and local speakers, a drama performance and a panel discussion. One participant said: “The interest, energy and passion both from speakers and indeed the audience was palpable.”
Speakers included Dr Cormac Moore, Patrick Duffy, Dr Kieran Rankin, Dr Niamh Brennan, Dr Liam Campbell, Dr Lynsey Black and Jim McBride. Topics discussed included the Irish Boundary Commission, the North-Eastern Boundary Bureau, the cartography that concluded the Boundary Commission, compensating Southern Irish loyalists after the Anglo-Irish Treaty, smuggling, the impact of the Border on Lough Foyle and the Railways.
The conference was part of Donegal County Council’s 2025 Commemorative programme, and was supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
